March 25 (Renewables Now) - Enercon GmbH has restored the remote monitoring and maintenance for more than half of the 5,800 wind turbines across central Europe that were affected by a satellite disruption at the end of February, the German manufacturer said on Thursday, reassuring that there is no risk to the operation of the machines and never has been.

As many as 677 wind farms have been reconnected to remote monitoring and maintenance while work continues to restore the communication link for the remaining 618 parks, Enercon said on Thursday.

The company expects to be able to restore the remote control of the majority of the turbines by Easter.

At the beginning of March, Enercon confirmed that the remote monitoring and control of more than 10 GW of its turbines in Central Europe was affected by a satellite disruption, stressing that the issue was not caused by a technical failure on the company's side. The troubled satellite connection did not affect the operation of the turbines which continued producing green electricity as the disruption solely impaired the communication channel between Enercon Service and the wind energy converters.

The company noted that it has been confirmed that the disruption was caused by a cyberattack but it was not targeted at Enercon or its customers.
