After a massive week of movies last weekend, August continues to not let up with a full slate of releases this week. Below, we share the best new movies to watch in theaters and films available on streaming services that you won’t want to miss.
I talked about how August can be that down month for films but streaming platforms are taking advantage of that by releasing a ton of content throughout this month. I give them a ton of credit for recognizing that whole in the schedule and running with it.
The movies being released in theaters might not be as big as some of the other films we’ve seen recently. However, Lionsgate is releasing Fall and I tell you what, it is an intense thriller that had me on the edge of my seat throughout the entire film. It had some superb directing, acting and a heck of a score. I wish I saw it on the big screen.
Netflix has two big films releasing this week, with one of them being one of my most anticipated movies of August with Day Shift. The film’s loaded cast includes Jamie Foxx, Dave Franco, Snoop Dogg and Karla Souza. Day Shift is about Bud (Foxx), a hunter of vampires that uses a pool cleaning business as a front for his job. Foxx, Vampires and Snoop Doog, what more could we ask for?
I saw Emily the Criminal back at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival and it has a kickass performance from Aubrey Plaza that I would recommend if it’s playing in a theater near you.
What will you be watching this weekend? Will you enjoy a movie in theaters or streaming?
