Netflix has come a long way since its beginnings as a DVD-by-mail service. Launched in 1998 by Marc Randolph and Reed Hastings, the company was the first-ever DVD rental and sales site.

Today, Netflix operates as a streaming service. According to Comparitech, Netflix has the largest subscriber base in the streaming industry — and that’s not counting the estimated 41% of viewers who access the service without subscriptions via password sharing.

With recent hits like Squid Game and Clickbait, Netflix has also had success with its original content, which is only accessible on its service.

According to Insider, most devices — streaming sticks, game consoles and smart TVs — run the same Netflix app. This means you can use the same steps to sign out, regardless of how you’re accessing the service.

Once you’ve opened the app and selected a user profile, you can use the left arrow on your remote control or the joystick of your game controller to open the Netflix sidebar menu.

After successfully opening the sidebar, you should see an option titled “Get Help.” It may be near the bottom. Select this option.

On the “Get Help” menu, there should be a “Sign Out” option. Select this option.

The app may ask you to confirm that you’d like to sign out. Then, you will be relocated to the “Get Started” menu.

If you need to log out of Netflix on a device that is not near you, rest assured. Just because you’re far from your TV doesn’t mean you can’t protect your account.

According to HelloTech, you can sign out of all devices at once from Netflix.com or from the mobile app.

After you’ve signed into Netflix on the website or the mobile app, you may have to select a user profile before arriving at the Netflix home screen.

Once on the home screen, select your profile icon in the top right corner. It may look like the default Netflix smiley face, or it may be an image you’ve selected for your profile. If you’re on your computer, you may only have to hover your cursor over the icon to access the dropdown menu.

Now that you can see a list of users and the “Account” button, and the Help Center, select “Account.”

On the Account menu, scroll all the way down to “Settings.” Select “sign out of all devices.” Netflix may ask you to confirm that you’d like to complete this task.

After confirmation, any device you’ve used for Netflix will no longer be signed in.
