The Warbirds & Classics Over The Midwest remote control model airplane airshow is set to open Thursday, August 18, and runs through Sunday at Wellnitz Field south of the City of Fond du Lac.

The event has about 120 pilots from all over the United States and Canada registered to fly their giant model warbirds and pre 1960 model planes around the airfield.

The event, which is known as Fond du Lac’s mini EAA AirVenture, is open to the public and spectators are encouraged to bring their own chairs.

The remote-control air show begins at 9 am on Thursday August 18th, featuring over 300 flying aircraft.

To qualify for this event, planes must be giant scale models of World War I to modern day warbirds, or models of classic aircraft built before 1960.

Planes at the event can have wingspans over nineteen feet long.

The event is free to attend after a $10 parking fee is paid. The parking fee is good for all 4 days. Those that only want to attend on Sunday will pay $5 to park.

Food trucks will be on hand as well as vendors selling merchandise.

Wellnitz Field is located at N4841 Hickory Road, 2-½ miles south of Highway 41. Organizers of the event state that the bridge on Hickory Road to the North of the field is expected to be closed at the time of the event and spectators will need to get to the field from the south on Hickory Road. A list of directions and a map as well as other information can be found on the events website at www.midwestwarbirds.com
