Resident Evil movies have proved that it’s the kind of game that shouldn’t be adapted for cinema, because most of the time it doesn’t work. The latest movie in the series, Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, released in 2021 and turned out to be a very bad attempt at restarting a franchise. But this time, Netflix decides to bring this franchise to a live action series. But did Netflix find the key to success with their new Resident Evil series?

The Resident Evil movies might have been entertaining to some people, but a majority the video game fans never liked it. However, Resident Evil on Netflix is surprising fans in a positive way! The series manages to feel complete, the format of a series allows for the inclusion of more details from the games that we didn’t get to see in the movies. The series has that atmosphere and aesthetic from the games, too.

Now, it’s not a perfect series, but it’s quite fun for those who like zombies and good entertainment. As someone who grew up with the games, I can say that all the fans of the franchise will definitely like it. The series has two storylines, one that takes place in the year 2022, and the other in 2036 (after the apocalypse). Both are very intriguing and tense. You never feel like it’s boring because there’s a lot of stuff going on and it’s paced very well.

We see Jade and Billie, two sisters who moved into Umbrella’s organization and live there and over time discover the company’s secrets. The series manages to convey the anguish that the characters are feeling.

The action scenes are great, with a lot of gore. The only problem that comes to mind, is the CGI, but it’s understandable since it’s a streaming series. There’s usually CGI problems in streaming shows. CGI is quite terrible in some scenes, but on the other hand it has good moments so it’s not something that hinders the experience .

The writing is really good and everything is well explained. It doesn’t leave you full of unanswered questions. Overall, the series manages to still surprise with a simple and predictable plot.

Resident Evil on Netflix is better than any movie this franchise has ever had, bringing something unexpectedly interesting and intriguing that despite not being fantastic, manages to amuse the viewer.

Overall, if you’re fans of the franchise or love zombie stuff in general, this is for you. It’s not perfect, but it’s worth a watch
