If you’re vodafone customer and you have contracted the Vodafone TV television service, you probably use its standard 4K decoder or the most powerful TV 4K Pro, a model that not only allows you to watch content in UHD/4K on the TV but also offers additional features, such as Bang & Olufsen sound, Dolby Atmos compatibility, voice control and Amazon Alexa as an assistant.

They are teams that can become many hours on each daywhich can make your total electricity consumption skyrockets at the end of the monthespecially if we are not careful and always leave them on or do not turn it off at night in the most efficient way.

And it is that, as we saw in its day, this type of decoders, DTT receivers, routers and multimedia players do not have a high electrical consumption, since they generally do not exceed 20-30 watt hours, but its intensive use means that in the end they do represent a significant expense.

In the case of Vodafone 4K decodersfortunately in the latest revisions of the software they have reinforced the energy saving approach with two functions that allow us to reduce consumption of the device, especially when we are not going to be using it, such as when we have forgotten to turn it off or when we turn it off voluntarily and we are not going to turn it on for a few hours (for example at night).

The best known option of the decoder is perhaps that of auto power offwhich, as the operator explains in the instruction manual, allows the equipment to go to standby after a certain period of time without user activity.

Depending on the power saving mode you have set, your cable box may automatically turn off after several hours of inactivity. Before turning off, it will notify you with a message on the screen. You will only have to press a key on the remote to prevent it from turning off.

The idea is that your decoders automatically turn off after a few hours of inactivity for two reasons: to improve energy efficiency and to improve the user experience, since this speeds up channel change and navigation through the different service options. In addition, Vodafone has also implemented an additional feature known as “Quick Start”. This is an option to reduce the time it takes for the equipment to turn on from the moment we press the button on the remote control. By default and if we have not touched anything, it will be set to “Energy Saving” mode, which achieves lower consumption but causes the ignition time to be slightly longer. What is the reason?

Well, if we activate this “energy saving” mode, the equipment works with a full power off mode that deactivates the internal hardware and leaves it alone waiting for the power-on order to arrive from the remote control. If, on the other hand, we choose the “Fast start” mode, the equipment will spend more energy since keeps machine resources ready to start, receive updates, etc.

To activate or deactivate the fast boot function we have to follow the next steps from the decoder remote control:

First of all you have to press the “MENU” button on the remote control to open the general screen of the equipment.

Now select the “CONFIGURATION” option on the menu.

Let’s go to the section “Setting the system”

We look for the function “I save energy”.

On the screen “Power saving mode”we choose the option “low consumption” so that the decoder spends as little as possible.

As an additional option, Vodafone TV decoders also allow you to manage the LED light emission intensity status of the device.

The option is called “LED brightness” and finds next to “Energy saving” mode aforementioned. If we click on it we can vary between the levels “low”, “medium” and “high”. The difference between the two extremes is very noticeable and will help us save a few extra watts at the end of the month.
