It’s been a busy offseason at Alta Ski Area in Utah. In a blog post from Thursday, they discussed the projects they’re working on for next season.

The major project is the replacement of the Sunnyside Triple with a Leitner-Poma detachable six-pack. This lift will replace the Sunnyside Triple and the Albion double chairlift. According to the Salt Lake Tribune, the new lift will follow the same alignment as the old Sunnyside chairlift but will have bigger lift towers. With increased capacity out of the Albion base, it will allow more guests to get to Supreme and Sugarloaf easier and quicker.

The old Sunnyside Triple will be going to Red Lodge Mountain and is expected to open during the 2023-24 season. An interesting tidbit from the blog post is that the Albion lift won’t actually be removed this offseason, and it could actually run next season if the new Sunnyside lift has a mechanical issue. They are planning to remove the Albion lift after the 2022-23 season.

Their other major offseason project is the continued implementation of Remote Avalance Control Systems(RACS), which are replacing the traditional military artillery. In 2017, a Wyssen Tower was installed at the Cardiff Bowl Area, which is across the street from Alta. Last season, they added Wyssen Towers in East Baldy and East Castle. Throughout the summer, Alta has used helicopters to install five more RACS around Mt. Baldy. According to KSL, more RACS will be installed next summer.

With these new changes coming into place, it’s looking like another awesome winter ahead at Alta.
